Lord Cutler Beckett lavora per la compagnia delle Indie Orientali e giunge a Port Royal con l’intenzione di arrestare Will Turner, Elisabeth Swan e l’ex Commodoro Norringhton, purtroppo per questi ultimi Beckett interromperà le loro nozze. Sembra conoscere bene Jack Sparrow e afferma di aver avuto un incontro con lui alludendo anche ad un “marchio” che entrambi si sono lasciati. Quando Will però chiederà quale marchio gli sia stato lasciato da Jack, Beckett non risponderà e sembrerà infastidito solo al pensiero di ricordare. In ogni caso Beckett ha un mandato di arresto anche per Jack Sparrow e “chiederà”a Will di offrirgli i suoi servigi per ritrovarlo e sottrargli un oggetto di vitale importanza, la sua bussola. In cambio offrirà a lui ed Elisabeth la salvezza dalla forca. Beckett appare come un uomo sicuro di sé, ambizioso e senza scrupoli, pronto a tutto per avere ciò che desidera. Confessa ad Elisabeth di ambire a un qualcosa di più prezioso che giace nelle acque dei mari. Non si sa bene se Beckett alludesse al cuore di Davy Jones, sta di fatto che al termine della storia entrerà in possesso di quest’ultimo e con esso avrà il dominio di tutti gli oceani non ancora in possesso della compagnia delle Indie Orientali. Che Beckett ambisca ad altro ancora?

Cutler Beckett appare un uomo affascinante, dallo sguardo gelido e dai modi raffinati.. Lui e Jack sembrano avere in comune qualcosa oltre a un marchio, ma cosa Lo sapremo certamente nel prossimo e forse ultimo film I Pirati dei Caraibi : ai confini del mondo, infatti nel terzo film Beckett ha sotto il suo comando sia il commodoro James Norrington sia Davy Jones, poiché possiede il cuore di quest’ultimo ed è in grado di controllarlo senza sforzo. Beckett sembra quindi in vantaggio e pronto ad assistere, se non a combattere personalmente con la sua flotta , allo scontro finale tra i capi dei pirati provenienti da ogni angolo della terra. Beckett giunto in possesso del cuore di Jones non perde occasione per sterminare pirati ed anche gente innocente. Nulla può essere risparmiato, la vittoria sembra vicina. Con l’Olandese Volante in suo possesso distrugge senza sosta tutte le navi pirata che gli oppongono resistenza. Con la morte di Norrington, di Mercer e a seguire di Jones, Beckett perde il suo potere sull’Olandese Volante ma inconsapevole della morte di quest’ultimo si dirige contro la Perla Nera a bordo della sua nave, l’Endeavour per distruggerla una volta per tutte con il suo equipaggio. Egli,come gia detto, non sa che Jones è morto né tantomeno che a capo dell’Olandese Volante c’è Will Turner e quindi si dirige contro la Perla sicuro di poter contare sui cannoni dell’Olandese. “Niente di personale Jack, è solo questione di affari”. Quando l’Olandese e la Perla fanno rotta contro l’Endeavour, Beckett resta oltremodo scioccato e con un’espressione di pura incredulità ed infine di consapevolezza che non vincerà la battaglia si lascia distruggere insieme alla sua nave dai cannoni dell’Olandese e della Perla.

Scena davvero ben riuscita è stato il passaggio di Beckett tra le mille schegge della nave. La distruzione a tempo del corrimano sul quale poggia la mano nella sua elegante discesa delle scale ed infine la caduta del corpo in acqua proprio sulla bandiera della Compagnia delle Indie Orientali. Per Beckett è stata scelta una morte quasi trionfale rispetto a quella toccata a Davy Jones e al Commodoro Norrington.

QUALCOSA DI INSPIEGABILE

Il carattere di Beckett muta radicalmente nel terzo film. Egli è più malvagio, insensibile e avido di potere, mentre nel secondo solo alcuni aspetti di questo personaggio erano stati accennati, facendolo apparire quindi nel terzo film totalmente diverso. In ogni caso Lord Cutler Beckett rappresenta la minaccia maggiore per i pirati e per lo stesso Jack Sparrow, ma tra i due non avviene nessuno scontro bensì un accordo che, infine non verrà rispettato da Beckett stesso. Ciò che resta ancora senza risposta è per l’appunto l’incontro tra Jack e Beckett, i due sembrano conoscersi da tempo eppure non viene rivelato quale marchio Jack ha lasciato su Beckett anni addietro. Si spera che nell’uscita del DVD ci siano scene eliminate con la spiegazione a questa domanda. Altra stranezza del film è stata “l’incredulità” di Beckett prima della sua morte. Egli ha alle sue spalle una flotta di navi che hanno a disposizione una potenza di fuoco nettamente superiore a quella dell’Olandese Volante e a quella della Perla nera. Lo stesso Endeavour la possiede. Eppure Beckett non ordina di far fuoco e resta invece incredulo e scioccato dinanzi all’alleanza delle due navi. Decisione dei registi era quella di far morire il capo della compagnia delle indie orientali onorevolmente ma senza possibilità di “combattere”. Un po’ assurdo ma questa decisione è stata comunque apprezzata dal pubblico.

Lord Cutler Beckett was the supreme head of the East India Trading Company. He was granted the title of Lord at some point before assuming Port Royal as his base of operations."It's just…good business." Decades prior to this, Beckett oversaw operations conducted by East India Trading Company member Jack Sparrow, who carried out a number of assignments aboard his merchant vessel, Wicked Wench. However, when Sparrow refused to transport slaves from Africa to the Caribbean, Beckett ordered his ship destroyed and Sparrow himself imprisoned.

Beckett's men set the Wench aflame and captured Sparrow. Beckett himself branded Jack as a pirate—burning a "P" symbol onto his right forearm—and had him incarcerated. Jack ultimately escaped, and at some point left his own mark on Beckett.

Approximately a year after the incident at Isla de Muerta, Cutler Beckett, now Lord Beckett, arrived at Port Royal aboard the HMS Endeavour, bearing arrest warrants for William Turner, Elizabeth Swann and former Commodore James Norrington, all of whom had been implicit in the escape of Jack Sparrow from his execution at Fort Charles. Beckett had Swann imprisoned, but struck a deal with Turner; he wished to obtain Jack's mysterious compass, with which he hoped to find the Dead Man's Chest and assume control over the legendary Davy Jones and his crew. In return, Beckett promised to pardon Will and make Jack a privateer under the English crown. Will agreed, and set off to locate Jack.

Some time later, Beckett was confronted in his office by Elizabeth Swann, recently escaped from custody and searching for Will, her husband-to-be. She too made a deal with Beckett, though these negotiations were held at gunpoint. Beckett was forced to agree, and allowed Elizabeth to flee. Her father, Weatherby Swann, who had a history with Beckett, pleaded for his daughter's life, but Beckett refused to comply. Beckett allowed the Governor to retain his position, if only to ensure good reports returned to Beckett's bosses in London. Beckett eventually had Weatherby imprisoned once his usefulness had expired.

Ultimately, Lord Beckett recieved the contents of the Dead Man's Chest from James Norrington, seeking a return to his former glory. With the heart of Davy Jones in his possession, Beckett was now one step closer to his goal of eradicating piracy from the Caribbean for good.

With the heart in his possession, Becket made an allegiance with James Norrington, whom he made admiral, and Davy Jones to eradicate piracy from the Caribbean. During this period, Beckett ordered the execution of thousands of people who associated with pirates, including children.

With the Flying Dutchman under his command he easily obliterated numerous pirate vessels. However, he often became irritated with Davy Jones, who rarely left survivors to interrogate. In the massive battle between the East India Trading Company and the pirates, Beckett placed the Dutchman at the vanguard of his fleet.

END OF BECKETT

Following the death of Davy Jones, and the apparent sinking of the Flying Dutchman, he commanded the HMS Endeavour to finish the Black Pearl. However as he closed in on the Pearl, the Flying Dutchman reemerged from the depths. Beckett, not knowing that in stabbing Jones's heart Will Turner had become the Flying Duchman's new captain, was absolutely dismayed when both the Black Pearl and the Flying Dutchman moved against the Endeavour. The Pearl and the Dutchman sailed forward, flanking the Endeavour on both sides. Both ships opened fire on the Endeavour, delivering full broadsides to the ship. Beckett was stunned at his utter defeat and failure and stood stunned on the quarterdeck of the Endeavor as the ship was blown out from under him. Defeated and outmatched, he, completely oblivious to the carnage and destruction going on around him, calmly strode across the deck of the Endeavour as fire from the Pearl and the Dutchman tore it apart, eventually meeting his end when his helpless warship exploded. His body was blown overboard and landed atop a floating East India Trading Company flag.
